Did you know there are 100 ways to say 'How are you?' as Gaeilge?

‘Cén chaoi a bhfuil tú?’ is but one of MANY.

CIAMAR A THA THU? Conas athánn tú? Agus goidé an chuma atá ort?

Calm down, we’re just asking ‘How are you?’

The folks behind Coiste Focal Nua, an account that translates new slang and modern words into Irish, have created this map of Ireland that features 100 different ways to ask ‘How are you?’ as Gaeilge – listed according to region.

We personally thought there were only two, which goes to show how much we know.

Here are a few interesting ones that stuck out – see if you can find them on the map:

Goidé mar atá tú?
Dé man a thu u?
Ciamar a tha thu?
Dé cor a thá tú?

You can follow Coiste Focal Nua on Twitter here. Go forth, and impress your Donegal or Connemara-dwelling friends.
